Questions
How do I check if an Instagram username is available?
Open instagram.com/ followed by the name, which is what the Check on Instagram button does for you. If Instagram says the page isn't available, nobody is using the name right now, so you can most likely take it. Instagram has the final word: enter the name under Edit profile, and if Instagram accepts it, it's yours. Now and then a name from a deactivated account is held back for a while; in that case, one of the ideas will do.
What characters can an Instagram username have?
Up to 30 characters: the letters a to z, numbers, periods and underscores. It can't start or end with a period or have two periods in a row. Capital letters make no difference, so @LisaBakes and @lisabakes are the same name.
What are the rules for a TikTok username?
TikTok usernames have 2 to 24 characters and can contain letters, numbers, underscores and periods, but no period at the end. You can change yours once every 30 days, and your profile link changes with it.
What are the rules for a YouTube handle?
A YouTube handle has 3 to 30 characters: letters and numbers from many languages, plus underscores, hyphens, periods and middle dots, as long as those aren't the first or last character. It can't look like a web address or a phone number, and capital letters make no difference. Names in Chinese or Korean characters can be 1 to 10 characters long.
Why doesn't this tool look up availability itself?
Only Instagram, TikTok and YouTube know which names are taken, and Selfpost doesn't ask them on your behalf. Your ideas stay in your browser. The Check buttons show you the platform's own answer in one tap.
What can I do if my favourite name is taken?
Add a short word like the, hq, studio or daily, put a period or underscore between two words, or add a short number. The ideas list does exactly that and shows where each version fits. Keeping the same name on every platform makes you easier to find.
