Questions
How many characters can an Instagram caption have?
2,200 characters. This counter counts the way Selfpost does when it posts for you, so most emoji count as two characters. Keep your point in the first line, since that's what people see before they tap more.
How many hashtags can I use on Instagram?
Up to 5 on a post or reel. Instagram's help center says a post with more than 5 hashtags won't go out. Pick the five that name your topic best; specific tags like #sourdoughbaking help more than broad ones like #food.
How many people can I mention in an Instagram caption?
Up to 20 @mentions per caption. The counter finds every @name that starts a word, so an email address doesn't count as a mention.
How long can a TikTok caption be?
TikTok accepts 2,200 characters for captions sent through its official posting interface, which is what apps like Selfpost use. Hashtags and @mentions count toward that number.
What are the YouTube title and description limits?
A title can have up to 100 characters. A description can have up to 5,000 bytes: a plain letter is one byte, a letter like ä is two and most emoji are four, so a description full of emoji fits fewer characters. Neither may contain < or >. Up to three hashtags appear next to your title, and a video with more than 60 hashtags has all of them ignored.
Why does the list mark some hashtags?
A marked hashtag appears more than once. #Berlin and #berlin count as the same tag, so one of them is enough and the space is better spent on another word.
Is my caption saved or sent anywhere?
No. The counter runs in your browser. Nothing you type leaves your device, and it's gone when you close the tab.
