Questions
Which files can I extract audio from?
Anything your browser can play: MP4, MOV, M4V and WebM videos, and audio files like MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG and FLAC. Chrome and Edge read the widest range. If a file doesn't open, try it in another browser.
Why WAV?
Every editor opens WAV without a plug-in: Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut, CapCut, Audacity, GarageBand and more. It is uncompressed, so the sound keeps the quality it had in the video and is never compressed a second time. Any converter can turn it into MP3 later if you need a smaller file.
What sample rate and channels do I get?
16-bit WAV at 48 kHz, the standard rate for video. Mono stays mono and stereo stays stereo. Surround sound (5.1) is mixed down to stereo so it plays correctly everywhere.
Is my video uploaded?
No. Your browser reads the file and builds the WAV on your device. Nothing is sent to Selfpost or anyone else, so it is fast and works for private footage too.
Is there a size limit?
No fixed limit, but your browser holds the whole sound in memory while it works. Files up to about 1.5 GB work well on most computers. For longer videos, export a shorter clip first. The WAV itself takes about 11 MB per minute of stereo sound.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes, in a current browser, for videos that fit your phone's memory. Pick a video from your library or files. On iPhone, the WAV goes to the Downloads folder in the Files app.
